AFC shifts 2027 Asian Cup to Dec 2027–Jan 2028 window

The 24-team finals move from early 2027 into a 23 December 2027–21 January 2028 window after deadly strikes on the host, with new dates still needing FIFA approval.

The 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia is postponed; new dates run from 23 December 2027 to 21 January 2028.

Original window was 7 January to 5 February; the AFC cited regional developments, logistics problems and travel disruption.

In October, a Houthi missile attack on Riyadh’s airport killed 13 people and wounded more than 300.

New tournament dates will be put to FIFA for approval; the Saudi Pro League postponed this week’s fixtures.

Other Saudi events were also hit, including a cancelled tennis exhibition and an indefinitely postponed golf finale.
