Agriculture financing at Rs1.329tr covers 3.5m borrowers

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reviewed the latest figures in Islamabad and pressed for faster loan disbursements to farmers and small firms.

Outstanding agriculture financing stands at Rs1.329 trillion, covering about 3.5 million borrowers, the Finance Division said.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb reviewed the figures at the Access to Finance Steering Committee’s sixth meeting in Islamabad on 28 October.

Under the Zarkhez-e: Asaan Zarai Qarza Scheme, 20,176 applications worth Rs8.674 billion were approved.

Of those, 6,132 collateral-free loans worth about Rs2.34 billion have been disbursed to smallholder farmers.

The committee also discussed livestock and dairy credit and wider private-sector roles in farm supply chains.
