Ahsan Iqbal directs Islamabad education reform for rural schools

The Planning minister told a joint committee to draft a practical Islamabad education reform timeline focused on rural schools, teaching quality and learning outcomes after a review of 50 schools.

Federal Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal directed a joint committee to prepare a practical, time-bound plan to reform Islamabad’s education system.

The plan follows a prime minister’s assignment to build a model public-school system in Islamabad that other areas could later adopt.

A Planning Ministry assessment of 50 schools (34 rural, 16 urban) found weaker rural learning outcomes and a gap between exam scores and real understanding.

The committee will include Planning, the Federal Directorate of Education, Federal Education officials, academics and specialists, with clear deadlines.

Subgroups will set facilities, staffing and teaching standards for model primary schools, with regular monitoring of children’s learning.
