Asghar Ali Tareen-led PAC reviews Rs7.7bn Quetta accounts gap
In Quetta, Asghar Ali Tareen’s Balochistan PAC probe into financial irregularities centred on a Rs7.71bn unreconciled gap between provincial books and State Bank records as of June 2023.
Balochistan Assembly PAC, chaired by Asghar Ali Tareen, reviewed major financial irregularities and audit objections in Quetta.
As of June 30, 2023, provincial statements showed over Rs23.06bn while State Bank records showed about Rs15.29bn—a gap of nearly Rs7.71bn.
Audit officials linked the variance to weak record-keeping, unposted uncashed cheques, and delayed reconciliation with the State Bank and National Bank of Pakistan.
Finance Secretary Muhammad Jahangir Khan Kakar joined after criticism over his initial absence; members said top finance officials must attend certification audits.
The panel also noted significant financial default at a premier provincial university while reviewing the Accountant General’s certification audit.
