Bank of America tells clients: keep passwords off AI tools
Bank of America AI security advice in a customer email warns that sharing usernames and passwords with AI agents can leave account holders liable for whatever those tools then do.
Bank of America emailed customers under the title “Protecting your finances in the AI World.”
It told customers never to share a username or password with another person or outside service, including AI tools or agents that offer to act on their behalf.
The bank said customers who share credentials remain responsible for activity that follows from that access.
Risks include unauthorised account actions, account lockouts, and credential leaks if an AI tool is compromised.
Banks and payment firms are still working out how AI agents should access accounts for uses such as agentic payments.
