Talal Chaudhry confirmed on Monday that Sohail Afridi and some cabinet members were taken into preventive custody.
He said the detentions happened on Sunday, and that people with cases would be tried while others would be released.
President Asif Ali Zardari imposed an emergency and governor's rule in KP the same day on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's advice, citing security.
PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan called the emergency a "grave political mistake".
The cabinet members held with Afridi have not been named.
