The federal government is weighing a diesel price reduction in Pakistan of Rs30 to Rs40 a litre for eligible users after Shehbaz–JI talks, and may enrol up to five million more people.
The federal government has agreed in principle to consider expanding its targeted subsidy on petroleum products, including diesel.
Eligible beneficiaries could see petroleum products Rs30 to Rs40 a litre cheaper if technical talks hold.
Up to five million more consumers may join the existing petrol subsidy scheme; older motorcycles and vehicles are also under review.
Jamaat-e-Islami pressed for diesel cover for farmers; the government has already cut locally produced diesel by Rs32 a litre.
Technical committees will set final eligibility, scope and amounts; the prime minister earlier sought 7–10 days on the petroleum levy demand.
