ECC allows EDF funds shift to commercial bank account
The Economic Coordination Committee cleared a Commerce Ministry plan after the Export Development Surcharge freeze cut the Fund’s main income stream.
The ECC approved letting the EDF Board move money from its Public/Treasury Account into a commercial bank for investment in government securities.
The Export Development Surcharge has been suspended since 1 December 2025, removing a major revenue source for the Fund.
The Commerce Ministry sought the nod in an ECC summary dated 6 October 2026 to keep the Fund financially sustainable.
The Finance Division backed securities investment but said a commercial-bank transfer needs federal approval under the Public Finance Management Act, 2019.
EDS was suspended to lower exporters’ costs; the EDF Act was amended and a new Board appointed in early 2026.
