Election Commission drafts AI curbs for campaigns and media
The draft would require labels on deepfakes and cloned-voice robocalls, ban defamatory AI content, and make media houses answerable for errors made with AI tools.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has put out draft changes covering parties, candidates, media outlets and election observers.
Parties and candidates would have to label AI-made campaign material, including deepfakes, and cloned-voice robocalls must say they are artificial.
Defamatory deepfakes aimed at candidates, judges, election officials and the armed forces would be banned.
Media houses and social media influencers would have to label AI-altered election content, and outlets stay responsible for accuracy.
Stakeholders have until November 20 to send feedback on the draft.
