MQM may lose poll symbol after missing party vote deadline

The Election Commission has ordered MQM Pakistan to answer within 14 days after the party missed the extended 15 October 2026 deadline for its MQM intra-party election.

The Election Commission of Pakistan issued a show-cause notice to MQM Pakistan on 26 October 2026 for not holding intra-party elections.

The party was given 14 days to submit a written reply.

MQM Pakistan had not met the legal requirement even by the extended deadline of 15 October 2026.

Under the Elections Act 2017, parties must hold intra-party elections and file an election certificate with the ECP within seven days of completion.

The notice warns that failure to comply can leave the party ineligible for an election symbol, which may also be withheld for future polls.
