Electricity distribution losses fall to Rs325bn: Leghari

Electricity distribution losses at DISCOs are now Rs325bn a year, the power minister told the Senate, citing lower circular debt and plans to end a per-unit surcharge.

Awais Leghari told the Senate DISCO yearly losses are Rs325bn, versus Rs591bn for 2024.

Circular debt is about Rs1.6trn, down from Rs2.4trn across roughly 30 months.

The government refinanced Rs1.2trn of that stock and aims to scrap the Rs3.23/unit surcharge in four years.

Power Division budget support is about Rs750bn, after Rs1,180bn in 2024.

Households on up to 200 units pay about Rs13/unit versus a Rs35 cost, with subsidy redesign due in 1–1.5 months.
