EU, Romania monitoring Pakistan human rights record: envoy
Romanian Ambassador Dan Stoenescu said in Islamabad that Pakistan's human rights record is under close EU watch, with more steps needed to keep GSP+ trade access beyond January 2027.
Romanian Ambassador Dan Stoenescu said Romania and the EU are closely monitoring Pakistan’s human rights situation and GSP+ commitments.
He acknowledged positive steps but said more work is needed for continued compliance with the preferential trade scheme.
An EU monitoring mission is examining performance; the EU will make the final assessment, he said.
Concerns raised with him included alleged political victimisation, media restrictions and human rights violations.
Bilateral Pakistan–Romania trade is about $156 million; he urged deeper trade, defence, education and cultural ties.
