Ex-OpenAI employee court case: prosecutors cite Saudi links
US prosecutors claim Abdulrahman Alfozan, charged with planting a recording device in an OpenAI meeting room, had considerable Saudi government support and a reason to leave the US.
Abdulrahman Alfozan, a Saudi national who worked at OpenAI for about a year, is charged with secretly planting an audio recorder in a meeting room.
Prosecutors say a court filing in California shows he had considerable support from the Saudi government, including a flight paid for by a military member.
OpenAI found the device on 30 September, and the FBI arrested Alfozan on 9 October.
Prosecutors argue he is a flight risk and should be held until trial. The Saudi government did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
