FCC: FIR after acquittal cannot block police hiring
A two-judge Federal Constitutional Court bench set aside Lahore High Court orders that blocked a Driver Constable candidate despite his 2018 acquittal and clean police certificates.
The Federal Constitutional Court dismissed Lahore High Court rulings that denied Abdul Latif a Driver Constable job over a past criminal case.
Latif ranked second on merit, was acquitted on 11 October 2018, and held police character certificates showing no criminal record.
The FCC held that an FIR is not proof of guilt and cannot, after acquittal, permanently block public employment.
Chief Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi urged federal and provincial authorities to align recruitment rules with these principles.
