PIA told to answer FCCP case on post-retirement medical aid
Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi urged compassion for former staff while noting past fraud in healthcare claims; counsel said the yearly ceiling is now Rs500,000.
A two-judge FCCP bench in Islamabad ordered PIA to file a written reply on healthcare for retired workers.
Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi said the carrier should treat ex-staff with compassion and not discard them.
He also said institutions suffered losses from misuse and that fraud must face firm action.
PIA counsel said rules now govern the scheme and the yearly cap is Rs500,000, up from Rs250,000.
The hearing was adjourned after the court sought PIA’s response.
