The Federal Prison and Correctional Facility Act, 2026 draft, prepared for the capital, sets rules on custody, rights, rehabilitation and prison management before any formal introduction.
A final draft of the Federal Prison and Correctional Facility Act, 2026 has been sent to the Ministry of Interior for approval ahead of introduction in the federal capital.
Senior Superintendent of Prison Ali Akbar prepared the draft, which covers prison establishment, custody, security, reformation and rehabilitation.
The draft outlines prisoners’ rights, complaint channels, medical checks, visits, calls and supervised conjugal visits, plus officer discipline rules.
A Prison Management Board led by the chief commissioner would advise on prison management and set up an Oversight Committee for welfare and rehabilitation.
