The PMDC Disciplinary Committee ordered stronger student oversight and counselling after the FJMU student death, and the university has filed a review petition against the fine.
The PMDC Disciplinary Committee fined Fatima Jinnah Medical University Rs20 million over the death of final-year student Fariha Ibrahim in a Lahore hostel.
The committee said the university was responsible for adequate measures for the safety and welfare of its students.
The university was directed to strengthen student oversight, monitor physical and mental well-being, and start mentorship, harassment prevention and counselling programmes for female students.
FJMU has filed a review petition with the PMDC challenging the penalty.
Police said preliminary findings suggested severe depression for about six months; further investigation and a medical board are under way.
