YC CEO Garry Tan spends up to $200K a year on AI agent tokens
On Walter Isaacson’s The Builders podcast, the Y Combinator CEO describes heavy token use, a shared Claude skill set called gstack, and why he says personal agents remain too costly for most people.
Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan told Walter Isaacson on The Builders podcast that he spends about $100,000 to $200,000 a year on tokens.
He said his agents help with work, coding, research and daily life, including email, Dropbox and years of Apple Notes.
Tan has shared 23 Claude Code skills, called gstack, on GitHub to show others what agents can do.
Y Combinator uses an internal agent named Stray Light with broad company context, he said.
He called today’s costs a “crazy privilege” and said prices must fall before personal AI agents go mainstream.
