Gilgit-Baltistan local polls: city corporations vote Dec 5

Only the municipal corporations in Chilas, Gilgit and Skardu vote first; district councils, municipal committees and union councils wait until April.

Polling for municipal corporation seats in Chilas, Skardu and Gilgit is fixed for December 5.

Public notices are due on October 24, and nomination papers can be filed from October 26 to 29.

District councils, municipal committees and union councils will go to the polls in April next year.

The amended law cuts local bodies from seven categories to four and allows independent candidates.

The polls were postponed several times, first from February 14, 2026, over winter weather and law amendments.
