The government has abolished 2,007 technical posts in the National Highways and Motorway Police under its rightsizing policy.

Parliamentary Secretary for Communications Gul Asghar Khan told the National Assembly the cut followed cabinet and Establishment Division orders on dying cadres.

Abolished roles include plumbers, electricians and other technical staff; a rightsizing committee also favoured outsourcing where possible.

Remaining employees can still seek promotion under the existing policy after completing required service periods.

About 4,000 posts have also been abolished in the Pakistan Post Office under the same federal policy.
