Kayani urges banks to speed Export Finance for SMEs
Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani said banks must appoint Export Finance Scheme focal persons as the government reviews SME trade financing and credit insurance.
Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani said the government is improving SME access to export financing and reviewing credit insurance and risk-sharing.
Participating banks were urged to appoint Export Finance Scheme (EFS) focal persons, spell out eligibility and set application timelines.
Exporters flagged taxation, regulation, compliance costs, green certification, freight and shipping costs, and limited access to modern machinery.
Relevant institutions were told to consult chambers, document issues and track progress with clear responsibilities and timelines.
The push was framed under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives to strengthen SMEs and expand Pakistan’s presence in foreign markets.
