Govt agrees in principle to phase out petroleum levy
Committees from the federal government and Jamaat-e-Islami are set to finalise a draft on gradually ending the fuel levy, with proposed relief for small cars and agriculture.
Federal government and Jamaat-e-Islami committees are to meet to finalise a draft agreement on abolishing the petroleum levy.
Sources say the government has agreed in principle to end the levy gradually, not all at once.
Proposed relief would cover vehicles of up to 800cc and 1,000cc, plus the agriculture sector.
JI’s Nasrullah Randhawa and Syed Farasat Shah are to face a government side including Ahsan Iqbal and Rana Sanaullah.
Leadership of both sides is expected to review and approve the final draft after the committee talks.
