Petroleum levy removal talks with JI near end, Baloch says
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar met a Jamaat-e-Islami team led by Liaquat Baloch on Tuesday; both sides said they will keep consulting on energy prices and consumer relief.
Ishaq Dar met a JI delegation led by Acting Emir Liaquat Baloch on Tuesday over petroleum levy removal and consumer relief.
The Foreign Office said both sides held candid talks on practical relief for low-income citizens facing high energy costs.
Baloch said the government accepted the validity of JI’s public-relief and levy demands after the party’s nationwide protest and six demands.
Relief for agriculture, public transport and some vehicle categories was agreed in principle, with further working papers due.
JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman is to announce the party’s next step after reviewing a final draft agreement.
