Haroon: banks not disbursing Rs2.2tr SME loans in Pakistan
Adviser Haroon Akhtar Khan told a consultative session that banks have not extended credit under the Rs2.2 trillion SME financing envelope, and urged the SBP and SECP to back small loans, leasing and insurance.
Haroon Akhtar Khan said banks had failed to extend loans under the Rs2.2 trillion SME fund.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently directed raising total SME financing from Rs1.1 trillion to Rs2.2 trillion by 2028.
A consultative session in Islamabad brought together SME clusters, banks, the SBP and government departments after complaints of non-disbursement.
SMEs cited missing standard application forms, checklists and clear decision communication from banks.
Khan urged the SBP and SECP to promote small loans, leasing and insurance cover for SMEs.
