HEC internship charges cut to one credit hour for students
Parliamentary secretary Rabia Naseem Farooqi told the National Assembly that universities must charge students for one credit hour only on internships, after fee concerns.
Rabia Naseem Farooqi told the National Assembly that all 282 universities in Pakistan offer internships, including a mandatory two-month placement in the sixth semester.
A federal ministry letter issued through the HEC about a month earlier directed universities to ease students’ financial burden on internships.
Under the revised arrangement, students are charged for one credit hour instead of three for completed internships.
MNA Alia Kamran alleged that one unnamed university had charged students Rs25,000 for internships.
Farooqi said monitoring of the internship policy has been strengthened and monitoring-team details will be shared with the House.
