HRCP: minorities still face rights abuses despite new laws
The commission’s seventh freedom-of-religion report says blasphemy cases linger unresolved, while a new minorities body remains unformed months after Parliament passed the law.
HRCP concluded that religious minorities still face rights violations despite recent protective laws.
Its 2025/26 report cites blasphemy misuse, forced marriages and conversions, hate speech and discrimination.
Attacks on Ahmadis in Chenab Nagar and the burning of a Christian doctor’s dispensary in Sheikhupura were among cases raised.
HRCP welcomed the National Commission for Minorities Act 2025 and marriage-age laws in Punjab and Balochistan, but said the commission is still not constituted.
Speakers at the Lahore launch warned of exclusionary state practice and called for proper legal process in blasphemy cases.
