Open-market wheat falls to Rs130/kg after Karachi cargo
Open-market wheat fell to about Rs130 a kg after a 51,000-tonne Karachi cargo, yet retail flour, maida and tandoor bread prices have barely moved for shoppers.
A 51,000-tonne wheat shipment reached Karachi Port on 28 October, pulling open-market wheat toward Rs130 a kg from Rs140.
Mills cut flour No. 2.5, maida and fine flour to Rs156, Rs168 and Rs171 a kg, but shops still charge roughly Rs170–190.
Chapati, naan and other bakery items are unchanged; tandoor owners cite LPG at Rs500–550 a kg.
A further 58,132 tonnes is due on 3 November; wholesaler Rauf Ibrahim says planned imports of 750,000 tonnes fall short of need until the next crop.
