Ahad Khan Cheema meets IsDB chief on USD5.6bn financing

IsDB funding for Pakistan was the focus when Federal Minister Ahad Khan Cheema met the IsDB Group chairman in Bangkok, on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank meetings.

Pakistan and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) discussed about USD5.6 billion in indicative IsDB Group financing under Pakistan's 2026 to 2030 partnership strategy.

The minister asked that the envelope be turned into well-prepared projects with clear timelines for approvals, disbursements and implementation.

IsDB financing of USD475 million for the M-6 Sukkur–Hyderabad Motorway and approval of USD100 million for polio Phase V were noted.

The minister sought more IsDB support for the ML-1 railway upgrade and more competitive terms for trade finance, which exceeded USD1 billion in FY2025-26.
