Govt phases Ishrat Hussain reforms across federal ministries
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said Ishrat Hussain reforms will underpin a phased overhaul of federal ministries, drawing on the former SBP governor’s blueprint rather than starting afresh.
The government has adopted former SBP governor Dr Ishrat Hussain’s institutional reform blueprint as the base of its restructuring agenda.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said the plan will be carried out in phases across federal ministries and attached departments.
Aurangzeb said he personally obtained Dr Ishrat’s report and that the government is building on existing work, not starting from scratch.
The disclosure came at an SDPI ceremony in Islamabad where Dr Ishrat received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad credited Dr Ishrat with strengthening the central bank’s autonomy, capacity and regulation during a six-year tenure that began in December 1999.
