Groups reject Rs65bn Karachi Port Qayyumabad corridor plan
At a Karachi Citizens Forum briefing, Clifton and DHA residents opposed the 16.5-kilometre elevated link from the port to Shahrah-i-Bhutto, citing noise, privacy and public health.
Civil society, NGOs and Clifton–DHA residents rejected the proposed elevated Qayyumabad–Karachi Port corridor at a Saturday press conference.
The plan is a 16.5km, four-lane elevated route from Karachi Port’s East Wharf to Shahrah-i-Bhutto; groundbreaking of the Rs65bn public-private project was held in May.
Critics cite privacy, round-the-clock noise, environmental harm, public health and weak public consultation.
Architect Arif Belgaumi said about 13,000 heavy vehicles would pass through Clifton and DHA every 24 hours.
