Khalid Khurshid, Babar Saleem Swati arrested in Peshawar

Police said the former Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister, wanted in several cases, was taken from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly speaker's house on Sunday night.

Khalid Khurshid, former Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister and PTI regional president, was arrested on Sunday night in Peshawar.

PTI said KP Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati and others were held with him at the speaker's house. A police source confirmed Khurshid's arrest.

Police said he was wanted in multiple criminal cases. In December 2024 an anti-terrorism court sentenced him to 34 years and a Rs600,000 fine.

Sources said he had lived at the KP chief minister's residence since 2023. They could not confirm where he will be taken next.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court disqualified him in July 2023. Haji Gulbar Khan later became chief minister.
