KP emergency rule news: CM Afridi and cabinet detained

KP emergency rule news confirms the chief minister and some cabinet colleagues were held in preventive custody in Peshawar on Sunday, a federal minister said.

Minister Talal Chaudhry said Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and some cabinet members were taken into preventive custody on Sunday at the chief minister's house in Peshawar.

President Asif Ali Zardari declared a state of emergency on Sunday and suspended the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government led by Afridi.

The centre said the province had failed to tackle terrorism; PTI said the move was meant to stop a march on Islamabad for Imran Khan's release.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said Governor Faisal Karim Kundi would take charge of the province.

Chaudhry said anyone facing a case would be tried and the others released. Reports also said hundreds of supporters were detained ahead of the march.
