KP Food Department raises daily wheat release to 4,000 tonnes

The Food Department wheat release in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa now stands at 4,000 tonnes a day, after flood damage to stored stocks at the Azakhel warehouses.

KP Food Department raised the daily wheat release quota from 3,000 to 4,000 metric tonnes.

The extra 1,000 tonnes comes from National Reserve Centre warehouses in Azakhel and goes to operational flour mills.

The move followed a Peshawar High Court decision, Cabinet Oversight Committee directions and a report on flood damage to stored wheat.

Six of the centre's 11 warehouses were damaged; the other five stayed safe.

Peshawar gets an extra 116 tonnes a day, the largest district share.
