KP Governor Rule Declared Amid Security Crisis in KP
President Asif Ali Zardari approves the cabinet decision to enforce KP governor rule and emergency measures following a breakdown in federal talks over provincial security.
President Asif Ali Zardari approved the federal cabinet's advice to impose an emergency and governor's rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Articles 232 and 234.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi will supervise provincial executive functions for an initial two months, unless Parliament extends it, with an 11-member advisory council. Article 234 caps the arrangement at six months.
Federal authorities cited deteriorating security, high casualties among police personnel, and the failure of talks with the provincial leadership.
Troops have been called in under Article 245 to assist civilian authorities and improve counterterrorism coordination.
