PSX sheds 3,560 points as October closes in the red

Geopolitical strain, KP political upheaval and a late State Bank rate rise weighed on equities, even as a late-week rebound and stronger corporate earnings limited deeper losses.

The KSE-100 fell 3,560 points, or 2.1%, in October to close at 166,409.

Brokers linked the slide to Middle East tensions, foreign outflows, profit-taking and political uncertainty after emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In the outgoing week the index still rose 4,034 points, or 2.5%, as daily volume jumped to 1.095 billion shares.

The State Bank raised the policy rate by 50 basis points to 12% on 26 October, its first hike since April.

Petrol rose 85 paise to Rs377.9 a litre and high-speed diesel Rs8.9 to Rs400 week-on-week under daily pricing.
