The Lahore High Court dismissed the petition on Friday, 16 October 2026, calling it premature because no official notification had been produced.

The petition, filed by citizen Shahid Islam, asked that Basant in 2027 be limited to one day instead of the announced 10 days.

The announced period runs from January 29 to February 7, but the court said the dates were not backed by an official notification.

The petitioner was directed to file a fresh plea with the notification, and the court asked why a fine should not be imposed.

The petition's claim that 17 people died in 2026 Basant celebrations is an allegation, not a court finding.
