Punjab told to restore family pensions for eligible daughters
The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court annulled a 2024 Finance Department notification that limited family pension eligibility to widows and ordered payments restored across Punjab.
The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court ruled Punjab’s cut to daughters’ family pensions unconstitutional and ordered payments restored.
Justice Ahsan Raza Kazmi decided a petition by Falak Shah and former District Bar Association Rawalpindi president Tanveer Sohail Shah.
A 2024 Punjab Finance Department notification had limited family pension eligibility to widows, stopping pensions for daughters linked to thousands of employees in 42 departments.
The court rejected the province’s defence, annulled the notification, and accepted equality arguments under Article 25 of the Constitution.
