Microsoft offers voluntary buyouts to about 60,000 staff
Microsoft layoffs news this week centres on a voluntary exit offer for staff in four countries as the company balances heavy AI spending with tighter cost control.
Microsoft said Monday it is offering voluntary buyouts to about 60,000 employees, roughly a quarter of its workforce.
A spokesperson said select teams in the United States, Canada, India and Britain at vice president level and below are eligible; some data-centre, sales and marketing groups are excluded.
The company is pouring money into AI infrastructure while seeking capital efficiency after earlier staff reductions this year.
Chief people officer Amy Coleman called the Voluntary Exit Offer a way for employees to shape their next chapter.
