Mpox cases in Pakistan: infant case reported at Malir hospital

Mpox cases in Pakistan include an infant whose infection the Sindh Healthcare Commission linked to a private Malir hospital, which the commission sealed over infection control lapses.

The Sindh Healthcare Commission sealed Ibne Hassan Hospital in Malir 15, Karachi, after a report from the district health officer.

The infant reportedly caught mpox during a circumcision done with contaminated scissors.

The commission cited poor hygiene, weak infection prevention and control, and unqualified staff.

Officials faced resistance at the facility, and Korangi police helped bring the situation under control.
