Punjab CCD says Multan suspect died in Bahawalpur gunfight
The CCD said the suspect had escaped its custody before being found dead, while lawyers and journalists questioned the killing and asked why the case never reached a court.
Punjab’s Crime Control Department (CCD) says suspect Tauqeer died in an exchange of fire on Bahawalpur’s Northern Bypass.
The CCD said Tauqeer escaped its custody during a three-day physical remand before he was found dead.
Tauqeer was accused of running over a 14-year-old boy who worked for him in a Multan housing society.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan alleged earlier this year that the CCD follows a policy of staged encounters; the CCD called this unfounded.
Lawyers and journalists questioned extrajudicial killings, and a PML-N MPA’s post praising the death was later deleted.
