NA passes SLIC conversion bill, paving way for company status
The bill does not itself decide privatisation, but it removes legal hurdles for the future and keeps policyholder interests and staff retirement benefits protected.
The National Assembly on Thursday passed a bill to convert the State Life Insurance Corporation (SLIC) into a company.
Bilal Kayani, Minister of State for Finance and Railways, moved the bill, which passed by majority vote after clause-by-clause reading.
The amendments do not decide privatisation; they remove legal obstacles if the government later chooses to divest.
Assets and obligations would move to the successor company, and policyholder interests and employee retirement benefits are meant to be protected.
The federal cabinet ratified the draft on December 26, 2025.
