Pyongyang runs underwater AI torpedo test after cruise firings
State media said the Zam-2.0 system used artificial intelligence for detection and guidance after more than 180 trials over five years, following recent submarine cruise-missile firings.
KCNA said Pyongyang underwater-tested the “super-speed” Zam-2.0 torpedo on Thursday and announced results on Saturday.
The agency said AI was used for target detection and guidance, and that core propulsion upgrades were confirmed.
The claim followed recent submarine cruise-missile firings and an AI-assisted hypersonic missile announcement earlier this month.
Analysts said AI might help tell real targets from decoys, but noise at high speed remains a major hurdle.
US President Donald Trump said he “may” meet Kim Jong Un during an Asia trip around November’s APEC summit in China.
