OpenAI engineer arrested; complaint unsealed Oct 13
The OpenAI engineer arrested by the FBI is accused of hiding a roughly $14 audio recorder in an executive conference room and faces up to five years in prison.
The FBI arrested Abdulrahman Alfozan, 35, a Saudi national on OpenAI’s product team, on 9 October.
Prosecutors say he hid a recorder sold online for about $14 behind a television in an executive conference room around 28 September.
OpenAI found the device on 30 September, fired him the day of the arrest, and says customer data, source code and model weights were not taken.
He faces up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release. The next hearing is 19 October in San Francisco.
