Taftan border closed over security and smuggling fears

In a Pak-Iran border update today, Balochistan CM adviser Shahid Rind said the Taftan crossing stays shut for security and anti-smuggling work, but could reopen soon.

The Pakistan-Iran border at Taftan remains temporarily closed for security, anti-smuggling and better border management, Balochistan CM adviser Shahid Rind said.

Rind said talks between Pakistani and Iranian officials are making progress and the crossing is likely to reopen soon.

A coordinated system is being developed to improve border affairs and curb smuggling, according to the adviser.

The Quetta Chamber of Commerce has said about 2,000 trucks were stranded on both sides and trade has been disrupted.

Traders were told to suspend new Iran-related purchases and bookings while the situation remains uncertain.
