Pakistan trade data discrepancy tops $18bn across five years
A government committee told the IMF that gaps between older customs systems and the Pakistan Single Window left more than $18 billion in trade figures unaligned from FY2020-21 to FY2024-25, and that the mismatch has now been reconciled.
Officials say a committee reported a trade data discrepancy of over $18 billion from FY2020-21 to FY2024-25 to the IMF, and that it has been identified and reconciled.
The gap grew from about $1.4 billion in FY2020-21 to about $6.2 billion in FY2024-25 as import coverage differed between systems.
A Federal Board of Revenue committee formed in 2025 traced under-coverage to WeBOC-based data that had not been fully updated since 2017.
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics and related agencies were urged to integrate with the Pakistan Single Window and tighten checks with major trading partners.
