Pakistan airspace ban hits 800 Indian flights a week

The Pakistan airspace ban for Indian airlines, in force since April 2025, has driven longer routes and higher fuel burn, with Air India suspending Delhi–Vienna and Delhi–Birmingham flights.

India’s aviation industry has reportedly lost about $2 billion since Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian aircraft in April 2025.

Air India is suspending Delhi–Vienna flights from 31 October and Delhi–Birmingham flights from 1 November.

A Pakistan Airports Authority spokesperson said the restriction remains in effect through November under a formal NOTAM.

Reports put Air India’s annual losses from the closure at $455 million to $591 million.
