Pakistan clears $750m ADB loan for pension and PPP programme

The $750m ADB loan for Pakistan covers $500m for federal pension reforms and $250m for PPPs after a Planning Commission panel cleared the borrowing.

The government approved borrowing $750 million (about Rs209 billion) from the Asian Development Bank for pension and PPP reforms.

Of that sum, $500 million (Rs139 billion) is for pension reforms and $250 million (Rs70 billion) for a sustainable PPP programme.

A concept clearance committee headed by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Ahsan Iqbal granted the clearances.

On the PPP loan, $200 million would be relatively expensive financing and $50 million would be concessional.

The State Bank of Pakistan said total debt and liabilities were nearly Rs100 trillion in June 2026, including Rs86.7 trillion in public debt.
