Commerce Ministry bars Indian, Israeli hires at overseas posts
The Commerce Ministry’s new rules also mandate spouse security checks, host-country preference, ministry approval before hiring, and a three-year tenure limit for local staff.
Candidates of Indian or Israeli origin are ineligible for local posts at Pakistan’s overseas trade and investment missions.
Applicants and their spouses face compulsory security screening; Trade and Investment Officers need prior ministry approval before recruiting.
Host-country citizens are to be prioritised; Pakistani-origin applicants with valid work permits may still be considered.
Contracts start at one year with 90 days’ probation, renew annually, and cannot exceed three years in total.
Hiring or extensions without prior approval will be treated as irregular expenditure, with the officer personally accountable.
