Pakistan debt financing: Aurangzeb, Lazard eye longer loans

Pakistan debt financing talks in Bangkok focus on Sukuk, Panda bonds and debt swaps as Islamabad seeks longer maturities without raising the overall external debt load.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met Lazard and lenders on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok.

Options under discussion include guaranteed Sukuk, Panda bonds, sustainability-linked loans, debt swaps and secured financing.

Talks with the IMF and UNDP also covered reforms, climate-linked financing and possible debt-for-nature or debt-for-climate swaps.
