Pakistan health minister Syed Mustafa Kamal told the National Assembly the country will fund vaccine procurement fully by 2030, with a barcode system against fake medicines due by end-November.
Syed Mustafa Kamal told the National Assembly that foreign financial assistance for vaccine procurement will be phased out completely by 2030.
Federal and provincial governments now cover 51% of vaccine costs; international partners cover 49%.
Full domestic funding by 2030 is estimated at about $1.2 billion a year for vaccines against 13 preventable diseases.
A nationwide barcode system to curb fake medicines is to be enforced by the end of November.
Work has begun on local manufacturing so all 13 currently imported vaccines can be produced in Pakistan.
